Central Texas Schools

Austin Schools:

The Austin ISD is composed of approximately 120 schools, including 78 elementary schools, 17 middle schools, 13 high schools, and 12 special campuses.  Prospective Austin home buyers often seek out school performance data to assist them in selecting a home in the Austin area.  If you see a neighborhood that appeals to you and wish to find out what schools serve a particular address, the easiest way is to use this form to look up the schools:  School Assignment by Residential Address.   In 1999, the 76th Session of the Texas Legislature enacted Senate Bill 103, mandating TAKS testing (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills).  The schools are assigned ratings of exemplary, recognized, acceptable, based, in part, on how many students pass the test.  For Central Texas schools, it is common for parents to have quite a selection of elementary schools to choose from that are recognized or exemplary.  At the high school level, it is more common for the high schools to be rated only acceptable.  Same thing is true for surrounding school districts.  Most school districts are working toward yearly improvement in their ratings and their success is reflected in our student's test scores.  In additional challenge facing the Austin School District is that since the TAKS program was implemented in 1999, the number of economically disadvantaged students has risen from 46.8 percent of the student population to 62.1 percent of the population.  AISD is the third-largest employer in the Austin Metropolitan Statistical Area and the tax rate of $1.202/$100 valuation is among the lowest in Central Texas.

While there are many good neighborhood schools to choose from, as an additional educational resource, the Austin independent school district offers advanced academic studies through magnet learning programs.  Transportation to these schools is provided by the school district.  Admission is selective with previous report card grades and teacher recommendations considered, along with other factors.  The magnet programs are offered at Kealing Middle School (zip 78702); Fulmore Middle School (zip 78724), and Liberal Arts and Science Academy (High School-zip 78704).  Austin School Map

Round Rock SchoolsMcNeil High School

To the northwest of  Austin, located in southern Williamson County is the Round Rock ISD.  This school district covers the city of Round Rock as well as portions of the City of Austin and City of Cedar Park.  The Round Rock ISD is much smaller than the Austin ISD, with only four high schools, nine middle schools, and 30 elementary schools.  The challenges to the district include a rapidly growing population.  In the past five years, the district has grown 21%.  What does that mean to a prospective home buyer?  It means that school boundaries are subject to change ... more so than in older districts with little growth.  If you would care to look up an address within the Round Rock ISD so see the schools and bus routes, this link here will get you there:  Round Rock School Finder .    At McNeil High school, progress on the TAKS test in reading as well as other areas has been very encouraging:

Pflugerville ISD

Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville, Manor, Coupland, and Hutto.  Like nearby Round Rock ISD and Cedar Park ISD, the Pflugerville ISD is also rapidly growing.  Only 10 years ago it had less than 10,000 students.  Today, the enrollment stands at over 40,000.  For more information on the Pflugerville ISD, this link will get you there:  Pflugerville ISD.
